Therapy Services
Kingsley Physical Therapy provides effective direction in healing for the following conditions and specific areas of pain:
Physical therapy may include:
- Back and Neck Pain (including pain radiating into the arms and legs)
- Shoulder pain
- Elbow, hand and wrist pain
- Hip, knee, ankle and foot pain
- Headaches
- Vertigo and Dizziness
- Orthopaedic (musculoskeletal) Rehabilitation
- Post-Surgical Rehabilitation
- Pre-Operative Conditioning
- Sports Medicine
Physical therapy may include:
- Manual Therapy; a hands on approach, which can include massage, joint mobilization, and soft tissue mobilization, among others. Lars Mitchell, MPT, OCS, CSCS has been trained in advanced manual therapy techniques from Australia, Canada, and the United States.
- Exercise: These may include stretching, strengthening, and self-mobilizations.
- Core Stabilization Exercises: These exercises are designed to restore normal muscle firing and strength/stability to the muscles that protect your spine. Recent research findings just out of Australia have demonstrated how crucial these exercises are in preventing the reoccurrence of low back and neck pain. These exercises are also critical for sacroiliac instability, common with many “SI Joint” problems.
- Functional Training; a new form of training, which has been sweeping through both the professional sports and rehabilitation worlds. Functional training is the fastest and most efficient means of getting there.
ML830 Laser
New to Northern Michigan, this is a painless, noninvasive laser that has demonstrated impressive results in the following.

REPEX
New to Northern Michigan, the REPEX table is designed to move the lumbar spine through specific pain relieving motions while the patient lies comfortably in a prone position. This table can significantly improve the rate of recovery from low back pain in most patients. The table can also be used to improve range of motion in those with joint stiffness or even post surgically once the surgeon prescribes physical therapy. The REPEX table can significantly hasten the recovery process for patients with the following conditions:
ASTYM
Kingsley Physical Therapy is the first clinic in Northern Michigan to offer ASTYM. This advanced treatment technique is a form of augmented soft tissue mobilization where specialized tools are utilized to both evaluate and treat soft tissue injuries. The tools are skillfully guided along the normal grain of the patient’s muscle monitoring for fibrotic patterns (poorly remodeled scar tissue). Normal tissue will be smooth while any fibrotic tissue that is encountered will feel rough. Many people develop fibrotic tissue from injuries, surgery, and repeated or “overuse” activities. Interestingly, both the patient and therapist can feel these fibrotic patterns and monitor how they change with treatment. Once encountered this fibrotic tissue is treated with several passes from the instruments. The effects are typically rapid and impressive. Not only does ASTYM free up scar tissue, it can actually reinitiate healing in tendons that had stalled in the healing process. It stimulates the body to heal both faster and stronger. This technique is popular in professional sports because of the powerful effects it has on the healing process.

Ultrasound: a painless means of delivering high frequency sound waves to enhance the bodies healing capacity. Ultrasound can be used as a deep heating source or non-thermally. Ultrasound improves circulation and is effective in reducing both pain and inflammation.
Electrical Stimulation: various types of electrical stimulation are available and the effects depend on the type of stimulation used. Some of the more common effects include reducing both acute and chronic pain, reeducation of muscles, and fatiguing of muscles for the purpose of reducing muscle spasms.
Mechanical Traction & Decompression: a comfortable mechanical means of unloading the discs and facet joints of your spine. Decompression can be an important means of augmenting the healing process in spinal pathology. Kingsley Physical Therapy is the only clinic in the area, which provides access to the 3DActive Trac, the most advanced table currently on the market. This state of the art table is the first of it’s kind to offer “segmental” traction and provides superior results for patients needing decompression. The 3DActive Trac’s effectiveness is further enhanced by the three-dimensional capabilities it offers during both traction and mobilization techniques.

This unique capability enables the therapist to restore movement restrictions of the spine in a completely painless and safe manner. The 3D ActiveTrac is also adjustable for cervical traction and is one of the most comfortable tables currently on the market. The 3D ActiveTrac can be a critical component in treatment of the following conditions:
Moist Heat: is sometimes used as an adjunct treatment in the overall rehabilitation process. It can be effective in reducing muscles spasm, increasing tolerance to stretching, and decreasing pain.
Ice: is effective in reducing pain, inflammation, and swelling. It is often used post-operatively and at the end of a treatment session.
- Low Back Pain
- Herniated discs
- Sciatica
- Lumbar stenosis
- Facet syndrome
- Neck Pain
- Headaches
- Cervical stenosis
- Pain associated with arthritis
- Nerve root compression
